Achilles Tendonitis:
Achilles tendonitis is inflammation of the Achilles tendon (tendon that attaches the calf muscles to the heel). Most commonly pain is found 2 cm above the attachment at the heel but it can occur anywhere along the tendon. Symptoms include tenderness on palpation or squeezing the tendon, swelling and redness around the tendon, pain with raising the heel off the floor while standing and pain while bending the ankle with your knee straight (calf stretch position). Treatment will include education about the condition and how to avoid making it worse, therapeutic modalities to improve circulation and/or reduce inflammation and pain such as ultrasound, laser, interferential current, electrical muscle stimulation, acupuncture. Taping techniques can be used to support and rest injured tissue and exercise to stretch or strengthen the appropriate muscles.

Treatment includes:
Education about the condition and how to avoid making it worse (proper footwear, heat vs ice, activity modification).

Therapeutic modalities to improve circulation and/or reduce inflammation and pain such as ultrasound, laser, interferential current, electrical muscle stimulation, acupuncture.

Exercises to stretch or strengthen the appropriate muscles.

Manual therapy to improve the movement in the area.

Tape to protect the tendon while it heals and help return to activity sooner.
